The building code of Australia 2008 requires that all new building work, alterations and additions need to have a termite risk management method installed. This law was passed through in August 1995 and the method protection needs to be installed in accordance with the Australian standard 3660.1-200.
The first termite barrier system to take place in Australia was in 1995.
Barriers can be either chemical or physical and would vary on the damage or possible damage to a property. These can be used separately or in conjunction together alongside with other termite resistant construction methods.
On completion of termite barriers you will be given a certificate and a durable notice that should be installed in your meter box. This notice will have the date and address of any chemical barrier which has been carried out on that property, it should also have the method of the barrier and any maintenance that is to be carried out after installing the barrier.
Any barrier which has been installed must be maintained and have follow-up inspections to make sure that the barrier is preventing and killing any termites that may be around the property.
